Sharker The Forgotten #1: The Story of Sean Kerr
by Sam Spina
This comic sets itself up like a slapstick comedy and then reveals a well-timed and wicked sense of humor. Hapless Sean Kerr goes boating with his beloved wife and chipper father-n-law only to be eaten by a glowing shark during a lightning storm...He emerges alive and transformed into Sharker, a hammerhead mutant and barfs up his new friend Shrimper. After the origin story is outta the way, we follow some bizarro landshark adventures getting wrapped up in some shenanigans. The "Eeek! A Monster!" card gets played- a few times over- but it's done with the punchiness of a good buddy film so it not only works, it's sort of this nice treat.
This also is the third comic I've seen in the past 6 months that integrates the Red Lobster into the plot....weird, right? (The others are Sakura Maku's Dark Tomato and Patrick Kyle's Black Mass #1 and they both are also excellent minicomics by the way.) Well, hell those cheesy garlic biscuits are pretty damn good. -EF
