A slow and subtle story about the "Lost in Translation" sort of social anxiety induced by moving to Japan without much of a plan and no friends. Martinson's work is drafted with acute precision, which makes the cautious and awkward protagonist all the more gut-wrenching- I sort of want to slap this book on the back, buy it a drink and tell it everythings going to work out okay. -EF
