Kelly's grandparents are crazy cheapskates, actually to the point bordering on seriously unethical. Her grandpa steals from community gardens and her grandma uninvites chubby family members from holiday meals. Those parts are a real screwed-up penny-pinching riot, but the book has endearing bits too about the thrifty-lazy bad crafts that get made -like a reflecting ball lawn ornament that's a bowling ball left in the bird bath or a Snoopy dog made out of milk jugs. -EF
