SF #3 When You Make a Promise in Space You Have to Keep It or You Die
Published by Koyama Press
58p, b&w, softcover, 7"x10"
Ryan Cecil Smith's SF series is exceptionally enjoyable - as it was starting out, it's penchant for spin off projects left me with the feeling the series was getting ahead of itself, but this issue from Koyama Press seems to solidify all that while expanding the narrative in all directions. There's a real gift here for lightheartedness - jokes roll by easily and it seems like the characters are enjoying them as much as the reader. Smith's linework is another thoroughly satisfying aspect. There's an easy, expresive weight to his style- parts of it remind me of Nate Beaty's recent work. Adept and charming. I'm charmed. -EF
