Grey Supreme is a two-part visual poem study. The first portion, Swallow, is all variations of drowning hands reaching out of endless water. The approach and sentiment - depicting this last effort before exhaustion over and over again brings a loaded stillness to the picture, a lot like a Jordan Crane drawing. The second part of the book, Double Rainbow, is a nice color game. Both ways, Grey Supreme is a slow build of meaning through repetition. The simple rules of the sections add up to something greater and that's lovely. -EF
