Glossy color candyland renders Yokoyama's experimental exploratorium both infinitely re-readable and barely penetrable. I'm on my third time through and it still takes conscious effort not to fall into some subconscious mathemagical realm of pure form after page 60. What's going on here? The approach is simple but the visuals are so dense, paintings and photos interchanged with easteregg tonals and cold hard graphic elementals. It's less like a comic and more like a place that sells only fancy ribbons....You can spend time unravelling yards and yards of a certain flavor that you won't be able to find at all on your next read through.
