When I found out that to produce just one 8.5"x11" sheet of paper it requires 3 gallons of water, I basically had to reconsider my whole livelihood, work process and production format. Understanding the waste involved in a process helps me determine what sort of printing/final form I consider neccessary and as an added bonus drives my inner treehugger into a composting craze. I think this is what this design book is shooting for as well, a way to illuminate how we design and how to make the book production process make environmental sense. -EF
