The End Oh Well
102p, b&w, softcover, 6"x8.25"
This apocalyptic comics anthology has solid showings from house favorites Inés Estrada and Theo Ellsworth as well as some fresh work from folks I've never seen - Jesús Cossio's richly pencilled wordless comic of recognition and thaw has the gestural strength and stylistic moodiness that puts it in league with Olivia Horvath's work. Powerpaola's silent piece about flooding is another treasure here. It has obsessively thin-lined magic markmaking and critter fascination that make me compare it to Kevin Hooyman's drawings with a meditative, amorphous pacing that harkens the Little Otsu Living Things series. -EF
