Sell your zines, comics and books at Quimby's

Quimby's takes zines and comics on consignment, (you own it, we sell it, and we pay you when it sells,) provided you:

(1.) Fill out our consignment form prior to us receiving your zines of comics
(2.) Agree with our consignment terms (see below)
(3.) Follow our preferences outlined in our consignment status
(4.) Mail in or drop off your zines or comics.

(2.) CONSIGNMENT TERMS


  • Payment: Quimby’s pays 60% of the retail price of items consigned up to 12/31/25. Quimby's pays 50% the actual sale price (not retail value) of items consigned on or after 1/1/26.
  • Discounting Your Work: On rare occasions we will discount your work up to 25% to distro to other retailers and/or increase sales on slow selling work.
  • Inventory Limits: Zines and Comics: Up to 3-7 copies per title based on our below consignment status. No single-copy submissions. Books: Please fill out the consignment form and provide one review copy for evaluation. If we decide to carry the title, we’ll follow up with next steps. Unsolicited review copies may be retained, sold, or donated at our discretion.
  • Check-ins: You may request a payout or stock check up to 3 times per year via email only (no phone or in-store requests). You MUST check-in in under 1 calendar year. Effective 12/1/25 we will not pay out for sales over 1 year old. 
  • Restocking: All restocks must be approved in advance. Unapproved extras may be kept or discarded.
  • Returns: We can return items if you cover shipping or pick them up in-store.
  • Unclaimed Work: We may discount, give away, or return remaining stock (you cover shipping) after 1 year.
  • Damage: Quimby’s is not responsible for damage due to customer handling, shelving, or wear and tear.
  • Record Keeping: You are responsible for maintaining your own sales records.
  • Online, Promotion & Distribution: We may list your item and post images of it on quimbys.com or promote it with images via our social channels. We may re-sell your work at fairs and fests and to other stores or distributors.
  • Conduct: We reserve the right to terminate consignment if terms are violated or staff is mistreated.

(3.) NEW CONSIGNMENT STATUS // 5/1/2026

Status: FULL WITH HIGH TURNOVER! As always check in before you restock. 

  • We can take 1 NEW title every 4 months in advance of a consignment check, unless otherwise invited. Please fill out the  consignment form for new titles.
  • For restocks we ask that you wait for your consignment check to be completed. No need to fill out the form for restocks.

Updates: We ask for support in making changes needed to continue providing your work a sustainable retail platform. 

  • As of 12/1/25 we are no longer paying out for sales over 1 year older than today’s date
  • As of 1/1/26 work consigned on or after 1/1/26 is paid out on a  50/50% consignment rate
  • As of 5/1/26 we operate on a 50/50% consignment based on the actual sale price (not retail value). On rare occasions we will discount your work up to 25% to distro to other retailers and/or increase sales on slow selling work.

  • Local Chicago authors and artists
  • Art Zines (photography, collage, drawing, visual, conceptual) 
  • DIY/How-To that are fem, queer, trans health/health-care, gender and sexuality 
  • Smut: LGBTQIA+ and Straight / Cis; comics, photo, writing 
  • Printed with ink; risograph / screenprint / letterpress
  • Collaged, hand sewn, appliqued, crafted

7 copies of: 

  • Artist made Art Books under $25
  • Perzine
  • Comics ??" unless printed with ink or local (see above)
  • LGBTQIA+
  • BIPOC
  • Unique and unclassifiable (surprise us)
  • Politics
  • Music

5 copies of: 

  • Artist made Art Books over $25
  • DIY/How-To on non health / gender / sexuality topics
  • Poetry & Chapbooks
  • 1/4 and 1/8 letter sized 

By Invite Only: Please do not send us these unless we ask you to.

  • More than 1 review copy of self-published books, (memoirs, fiction, local history, ect…)
  • Floppy style hero or trad comics
  • Anything glossy printed through Amazon or other online print-on-demand services
  • Black & white stapled zines on 20-30# standard paper (unless it’s punk / anarchist)
  • Under $3 retail value
  • Micro zines

Use whichever appropriate category we’re asking the most for. i.e. Local = 7, Comics =3, Local Comics = 7
