Book description from publisher's website, translated from Portuguese courtesy of the internet:
This book was published in the scope of the exhibition Diogo Jesus: Although I am not, I am very, curated by João Ribas, presented at the Municipal Gallery of Porto between June 2 and August 16, 2020. It is a split book, with the front and back serve as covers for two independent parts of the book. One side consists of texts, a series of digitizations of individual works by Diogo Jesus and the photographic documentation of the exhibition; the other side brings together several zines designed by the artist, between October 2019 and July 2020, in different diaries.
From his first works of music and comic books of independent production to his recent projects like DJ Nobita and Gekiga Warlord, the drawings, objects, videos, ephemera and archival materials presented give us an overview of the work of a prolific artist, which since 2007 has moved between genders and between communities. What unites most of these works is a narrative impulse and a subcultural and autobiographical dimension, as well as their ironies, which show both sarcastic humor and disarming honesty. The rotating cast of friends, artists, heteronyms, appropriate fictional figures and lexicon of subcultures present in the drawings offer a recurring commentary on issues of creativity, masculinity, personal obsessions, the culture of video games, the culture of 'do it yourself', precariousness and the conditions of art production.
Texts by Guilherme Blanc, João Ribas with Diogo Jesus, Marcos Farrajota
