Rain Barrel is one of the first perzines to arrive at Quimby's about lessons and skills internalized during COVID-19. The narrator likens the virus to an alien invasion (and in some ways it is). One of the things she learns is what she's capable of internalizing (besides daily doses of stylish alcoholic beverages). Inspired by having mandatory at home time, she organizes a Zoom reunion of her college newspaper. She learns a wicked cat-eye with liquid eyeliner. She works on recovering from plantar fasciitis from running. She even does some karaoke. Plus, she publishes this, her first zine, after being a longtime zine reader. All of this is written in first-person by a thoughtful single mom of 2. Now that's someone who knows how to rock a quarantine. -LM
