Rose Metal Press is an independent, not-for-profit publisher of hybrid genres specializing in the publication of flash fiction and nonfiction that moves beyond the traditional categories of poetry, fiction, and essay to find new forms of expression.

Rose Metal Press’s Readers:

Kathleen Rooney is a founding editor of Rose Metal Press, and a founding member of Poems While You Wait, a collective of typewriter poets who do commissioned poetry on demand. Her fifth novel Man Overboard! was published by Gallery Books / Simon & Schuster in July of 2026 and her debut picture book Leaf Town Forever, co-written with her sister Beth and illustrated by Betsy Bowen, was released by University of Minnesota Press in 2025.

Essayist and poet Heidi Czerwiec is the author of Crafting the Lyric Essay: Strike a Chord, and the lyric essay collection Fluid States, selected by Dinty W. Moore as winner of Pleiades Press’ 2018 Robert C. Jones Prize for Short Prose, and she is also the co-editor of the forthcoming The Rose Metal Press Field Guide to Writing the Lyric Essay.

Lee Horikoshi Roripaugh (she/they) is a biracial Nisei whose most recent book, unMothered, unTongued: Lyric Essays is the winner of the 2024 AWP Sue William Silverman Prize for Creative Nonfiction. They are the author of five volumes of poetry, most recently Tsunami vs. the Fukushima 50, and her fiction collection, Reveal Codes, winner of the Moon City Press Short Fiction Award, was published by Moon City Press in 2023.

Kelcey Parker Ervick is pretty sure she holds the record for being the author/editor with the most books published by Rose Metal Press—most recently The Field Guide to Graphic Literature. She is the author and illustrator of the graphic memoir, The Keeper, and a professor of creative writing at Indiana University South Bend.

Mar Romasco-Moore is the author of the novels Inner Glow (forthcoming 2028), Deadstream, I Am the Ghost in Your House, Krazyland, and Some Kind of Animal, as well as Ghostographs, an interconnected collection of flash fiction inspired by vintage photographs.
