Portable Gray Fall 2020 special issue, Horror as a Way of Life is hot off the press! Here's a portion of Zachary Cahill's, Editor's Plaisance: "What interested us at Portable Gray in examining this crossroads between horror as a genre of fantasy and actual real-world horror was that like so many of you, we found ourselves in that uncanny and eerie situation of watching the unfolding pandemic and racist violence over the internet or evening news and felt like we were somehow watching a movie, that these painful events couldn’t really be happening because they were the stuff of cinematic spectacle. Conversely, these pervasive waking nightmares also rendered the horror genre fangless. By which I mean, the need to frighten ourselves at imagining the impossible somehow lost its allure as we watched death and disease spread across the planet like wildfire. The impossible turned out not only to be possible, but persistent."
