Bird in the Hand Zine Shop is an online zine, magazine and book shop. Looks really cool. A nice website but also treasures print, as its mission statement says. It’s in Australia. Do they read zines flushing down the toilet in the other direction?

As spicy and sassy as a stick of pepperoni, ‘Za the Pizza Zine is a compilation about, what else, the wonders of pizza. Still, it’s about more than simply reveling in pepperoni prose for creator Nicki Yowell and her baker’s dozen of bi-coastal contributors. The Chicagoans are plenty and include Ramsey Everydaypants of List, Eric Bartholomew of Junk Drawer, gore poet Mason Pierce and Dining with Words’ Caroline Liebman. ‘Za combines fiction, essays, comics, illustration and photography to create an all-out snack time explosion. Come for the reading of eloquent odes to ‘za and stay for the pizza party, featuring actual pizza.

We’re tired of all the END OF PAPER, the END OF PUBLISHING AS WE KNOW IT stories. We’ve been hearing and reading about it ever since we’ve been open (which is going on almost 20 years now).
So for 2011, we’re throwing a challenge out there. If you’ve ever made a zine or mini comic MAKE ONE MORE ISSUE. Come on, you’ve got one more in you! Maybe you were thinking in the back of your head you’d do another issue one day. Now is the time.

Work In Progress is our social gathering on the last Wednesday of every month. Bring what you’re working on to fiddle around with, and if you need help from somebody, give a holler and maybe somebody’s got some helpful info. Or maybe you can help somebody else with imput if you’ve got it. Or just come and hang out and meet folks. Past folks have been comics artists, zinesters, poets and screenplay writers. Or maybe you want to meet somebody who can skill share with you. Or maybe you’re good at giving advice. We’ll provide the snacks.
