Bob Odenkirk (Mr. Show), is going to be at Quimby’s! For real! He’ll be here with either one or both of the authors of Comedy By the Numbers: 169 Secrets of Humor and Popularity (McSweeney’s), Eric Hoffman and Gary Rudoren, to show us how to be funny.

From http://www.bobanddavid.com: Being funny is hard work: just ask Gary Rudoren and Eric Hoffman. Like many people, they once believed that comedy was simply a matter of coming up with “zingers” and “jokes.” After countless hours of painstaking research, they’ve discovered that true creativity is derived from simple formulas and the memorization of data. Their groundbreaking new book makes the secrets of comedy accessible to all, not only to the naturally funny, but to those who lack the intrinsic ability or talent to be funny. With Comedy By The Numbers, readers no longer need worry about originality. They simply choose from the book’s comedic blueprints — and hilarity ensues! A comprehensive list of comedy characters, bits, scenarios, sketches, skits, shtick, and more helps readers build a memory bank of funny material. Special hints, tips, comedy history, hilariously funny comedy facts, and inside secrets from Bob Odenkirk and other seriously funny people provide additional aid and amusement.

JOE MATT interviewed by IVAN BRUNETTI

For over ten years Joe Matt has been notorious in cult circles for the embarrassing frankness with which he reveals his distressing habits and predilections, as documented in his comic Peepshow. By his own account, he grew up a spoiled, selfish, and unpleasant child with a bedwetting problem, who also happened to be obsessed with collecting comics. He will be on tour to promote his new graphic novel Spent (Drawn and Quarterly). Don’t miss this chance to see local comics artist and comics connoisseur Ivan Brunetti (of Schizo fame) interview Joe Matt on things artistic and personal.

Ryan Claytor LAUNCHES LARGEST SELF-PUBLISHING TOUR SUMMER 2007

Starting May 2007, Masters of Fine Art candidate and Autobiographical Cartoonist, Ryan Claytor, will begin the largest self-publishing, comic book signing tour on record. Claytor is most well-known for publishing his all-ages autobiographical comic book series entitled, “And Then One Day” under the moniker, “Elephant Eater Comics.”

Claytor recently announced the final line-up for his ambitious North American Comic Book Tour, which will take him to 50 different locations in 18 states and 2 Canadian Provinces. Stops include museums, public libraries, book stores, and comic book specialty shops.

When asked about the reason behind his tour, 27-year-old Claytor said, “I feel like this might be the only time in my life I can devote such a huge chunk of time to promoting my artwork. I?m in grad school right now, so my summer vacation affords me the luxury of skipping town for roughly three months, and I don?t have a wife or children to look after. It just seemed like the last opportunity to try something like this.”

Claytor will be getting to all of the stops on his tour in his little brown car he affectionately calls “Squirrelly,” which incidentally has over 300,000 miles on its original engine. When asked about the feasibility of a North American tour in such an experienced car, Claytor replied, ?I know it sounds silly to take this large of a trip in such a ?seasoned? vehicle, but it?s been really good to me and I?ve asked several mechanics to make sure it could survive a 10,000 mile road trip. They?re all surprised it looks as good as it does.?

You can meet Ryan Claytor in person as he comes through town to sign his autobiographical comics and limited edition prints at Quimby?s

Additional tour and book information can be found at Ryan Claytor’s website: www.ElephantEater.com
